A Mouth Full of Nails by yxonomei
Rating: R
Pairing: Gaara/Naruto, Sasuke/Naruto
Summary: 'There are some lessons Naruto refuses to learn, or friends he refuses to give up on, even after all these years.'
>>: Interesting, smexy, slightly dark. Be sure to check out the writer's other stories, like the creepy Butterfly Syringe and the ridiculous K.O.! White Satin Panties.
Accounting no Jutsu by daniel
Rating: G
Pairing: gen
Warnings: one-shot
Summary: 'Lots of people have postulated that Naruto's good at financial planning. Let's follow that thought a little farther into the future.'
>>: XD Just perfect. Spying no Jutsu's also worth a look, though it's much longer and could use some heavy editing.
Serenade by Loren
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: gen, slight Shikamaru/Temari
Warnings: one-shot
Summary: There is an old saying in the Nara family: Don't walk with the shadows for too long, or you'll become one.
>>: In which Shikamaru joins ANBU. This is devastating. -_- Pretty much everything Loren's done is like this: extremely interesting, but terribly depressing.
Dancing With Demons by Daystar Clarion
Rating: R
Pairing: gen
Warnings: wip
Summary: The blond took a fluid step forward, leaving the cover of the trees, the blue eyes darting between all of them. There was something strange about that movement, the way his eyes darted, quick and sharp, the kind he had seen on wild animals. Sasuke glanced at Kakashi and took in his masked face. He felt he knew his Sensei enough to read the elusive facial expressions that were hidden behind the mask, and how tensely he stared at the youth, eye laced with disbelief, and strangely, recognition..? In which Naruto is raised by a pack of demons ... and finds the family in them that he never had in canon. Naruto grows up in the wild, living like a demon, seeing humans as little more than a source of food, and nurturing the demonic traits that grow ever more prevalent as he gets older. But everything changes when his pack is torn apart by a group of shinobi. Alone for the first time, Naruto decides to rejoin the people who gave birth to him, to learn their language, their customs, and their way of life. After all, how is a demon of his abilities going to get revenge on the ninja who killed his family if he doesn't learn how to fight like them?
>>: This is a bit below my usual standards in parts, especially near the beginning, but if the 'Naruto as a demon' thing intrigues you then this is the story for you. Clarion seems to have a talent for taking dubious premises and turning them into something fantastic, and this, his/her earliest work available, is certainly no exception.
Haven by Toffee
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Gaara/Naruto, Naruto/Sasuke
Warnings: m/m
Summary: 'Temari wasn't entirely honest when she sought Naruto's help. She said Gaara had been missing for a few days, but he'd been missing for a few weeks...'
>>: Rather cute.
In Shadow by Loren
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: gen
Warnings: one-shot, m/f
Summary: 'It takes a village to raise a child. It takes a Hidden Village to raise a ninja.'
>>: An extremely interesting bit focussing on Shikamaru, Kiba, Ino, Shino, Kakashi, and what it means to grow up in a Hidden Village. Rather dark.
Requiem for a Butterfly by crimsoncourt
Rating: R
Pairing: Kakashi/Iruka, Itachi/Kisame, Neji/Kiba, Genma/Raido, Ino/Sakura, Naruto/Shikamaru
Warnings: one-shot, m/m, m/f, f/f
>>: Post the whole Sasuke-leaving business. A nice study of messed up relationships, angsty but interesting.
Shame and Fame by ckret2
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: gen, slight Rin/Obito and Rin/Kakashi
Warnings: one-shot
Summary: You should always watch what you say around children. Sometimes they take your words closer to heart than you'd expect, and they don't always take them in the way you intend.
>>: I've still got chills from this. The day before Obito dies he babysits Itachi, never realizing the extent to which the young genius would take his innocently intended words to heart. Very well done! Watch for last line; it's nice and subtle and rounds everything off just perfect.
Silence of the Damned by Daystar Clarion
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: gen
Warnings: one-shot
Summary: He had never killed anyone before, not even an enemy, and definitely not a civilian. He had never tried to kill anyone, only incapacitate. But here she was, not even a shinobi, lying broken on his bathroom floor. He didn't remember doing such a thing- didn't even know how he had gotten in his bathroom, or why he was naked ... in his tub. Who can you turn to when you've done the unforgivable?
>>: A chilling tale in which Naruto wakes to a scene out of his worst nightmares, and realizes that his only hope is to cover it up. A strange premise, but damned well done. Clarion's also started a sequel, Uzumaki's War.
The Book of Naruto by HitokikiOTD
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: gen, slight Hinata/Naruto and maaany others
Warnings: wip, m/f
Summary: 'Word of mouth has made Naruto into something of a legendary figure in the Country of the Wave. With the finding of an ancient scroll, his fame transforms into the birth of a new religion.'
>>: Terribly silly. XD The writing is actually pretty damned solid. Updates are slooow, unfortunately, but well worth the wait.
The bridge I crossed by the scrum
Rating: R
Pairing: Sasuke/Naruto, slight Orochimaru/Naruto, Kakashi/Naruto, Naruto/Haku, Sakura/Sasuke, others
Warnings: au, m/m
Summary: Naruto never expected to be called back after his absolutely disastrous first day as Uchiha Sasuke's secretary. He also never expected that he'd be able to get used to his employer's anti-social behaviour, nevermind actually liking the bastard. He certainly never expected to fall in love.
It would have been much less stressful for all parties involved if he'd been right.
>>: I admit that I skimmed through the first few chapters of this, but at some point I realized that the scrum is actually a pretty good writer. And then the story sucked me in, and I didn't want to miss a single word. This is a nice drama, and long enough to keep you entertained for a good while. Even better, it has a couple of sequels, one of which is still a WIP! If you want a taste of her writing style before making a commitment, try Back Seat Anecdotes, in which Team 7 goes on a very gay road trip, and Cohabitation, in which karma bites Sasuke in the ass after Naruto brings him back to Konoha (and becomes a nag). And you should definitely read Madame d'Aulnoy, which involves Team 7 searching for Naruto, and fairy tales, and this lovely stylistic thing, and an ending that made me laugh out loud.
The Stranger Within by Toffee
Rating: R
Pairing: Itachi/Sasuke
Warnings: one-shot, chanslash
Summary: 'Itachi sees the world through different eyes. He believes Sasuke might see what he sees, someday. He would like to make sure this happens.'
>>: Heh, nice. A good attempt at Itachi's psychology, and the chancest isn't too deeply disturbing. Sorta. He does care, in a sociopathic kinda way. ^_^;
Twenty-thirds by erisabesu
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Sasuke/Naruto
Warnings: one-shot, m/m
Summary: 'When one ritual dies, another is born.'
>>: I'm not a fan of Naruto, but this story was well written and realistic enough that that doesn't matter. It's a sad but sweet account of Naruto and Sasuke's meetings throughout the years as their lives take them in different directions but they never quite let go of one another. Worth the read, even if you dislike the anime as much as I do (and for the record, this is the first Naruto story I ever read, and entirely responsible for getting me into Naruto ficcage. Thanks, erisabesu!)
Water Displacement by cathy pandathy
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: subtle Naruto/Gaara
Warnings: one-shot
Summary: It's almost like a mission to Naruto: take care of Gaara and help him learn how to control the demon inside of him, and in return Gaara will be the Sasuke Naruto never had, someone able to match him ploy for ploy, kick for kick, and maybe even keep Naruto on his guard all the time. It's a symbiosis. It's a power play. But in the end, Gaara has a sinking feeling that Naruto is going to win, by no fault of Naruto, but by the simple fact that Naruto is the only person who can make Gaara nervous.
>>: I think the first comment on the page sums it up best: 'HOW THE HELL CAN YOU WRITE SWEET, GENTLE GAARA/NARUTO?
'MOREOVER, HOW CAN YOU WRITE SWEET, GENTLE, INCREDIBLY INTERESTING GAARA/NARUTO?' Pretty, rich with metaphor, and rather surreal in the best way.
What Remains Unmentioned by Dayadhvam
Rating: PG
Pairing: gen
Warnings: one-shot
Summary: Kakashi keeps accepting Gai's challenges because he likes to pretend that they still make a difference in the tally of their Eternal Rivalry. (Because, really, he knows that he's already lost - Gai is too kind to bring up the worst challenge of them all.)
>>: Aww. Angsty.
Etymology by alestar
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Neji/Naruto, slight Gaara/Naruto
Warnings: one-shot, crack
Summary: 'Neji is the Japanese word for "screw," while Hyuuga means "in the sun."
I think you can see where I'm going with this.'
>>: XDXD Oh, my.
How to Recognize an Uchiha by WolfPilot06
Rating: PG
Pairing: Slight Sasuke/Naruto and Itachi/Naruto
Warnings: one-shot, crack
>>: Naruto's guide on how to recognize an Uchiha. Ridiculous but rather amusing. XD;
Not Heaven by Anria
Rating: PG
Pairing: Naruto/Gaara
Warnings: one-shot
Summary: Gaara appears to take his new status as "friends" very seriously. More than once, Naruto wakes up to find that his clothes have been washed, dried, and pressed during the night, and that there's a mug of tea waiting for him downstairs. It's always hot when Naruto comes to drink it, which makes him think that Gaara knows of some kind of warming jutsu. He even mentions this to Gaara one morning, and gets a very odd look as the redhead mutely points towards the microwave.
>>: Cute~
