Chima Baifeng Shengshan Chun by Eric Hallstrom !
Rating: R
Pairing: Ranma/Akane
Warnings: incomplete, au, violence, slight crossover
Summary: Dad tried to keep 'training' me, but I nearly killed him three times in the next week. I knew it wasn't going to get any better either, so I beat him up instead, and then left him behind. I told him that he'd trained me for six years and now I was going to go away and train myself for six years, and at the end of that time I'd fight him for mastery of the school.
After the Neko-ken incident Ranma left his father to search for a cure. He never heard the name Tendo, but some things are simply meant to be: five and a half years later Akane's daily battle with the boys gets interrupted by a world-weary redhead who doesn't take too kindly to young men who like to gang up on pretty young women. The stranger's name is Ranma, and she's about to change Akane's life forever…
>>: This is ... amazing. Four books were planned and the first was never finished, and that's a damned tragedy, but what's there is more than worth the read. The characterization of Ranma is unique and absolutely stunning. Akane was reasonably in character, but for once I actually liked her—canon Akane has been cursed with circumstances that generally bring out the worst in her; in this story, circumstances bring out her best. The style of writing is brilliant and highly visual. It takes you places. And fyi, it's worth it to listen to the soundtrack.
The word that best describes this story is Epic with a capital E. Just read through the first couple of chapters. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

More a Woman by Christopher Angel; alternate endings by Saotome Ranchan and Bruce A. Munro
Rating: PG
Pairing: mostly canon
Warnings: ficlet
Summary: 'Ranma finds a unique method of ending his fiancee woes.'
>>: The alternate endings to this are quite funny. Bruce A. Munro's in particular is hilariously plausible.

Hearts Of Ice by Krista
Rating: PG
Pairing: Ranma/Akane; one-sided Ranma/Shampoo, Ranma/Ukyou, Ranma/Nabiki, Ranma/Kuno, Shampoo/Mouse, and Ryouga/Akane
Warnings: wip
Summary: When Cologne gets an ominous letter from back home warning that she and Shampoo must return to China within the year (plus one husband) or face the consequences, she decides that it's time to resort to more drastic measures. A dangerous and powerful spell is cast to separate Ranma and Akane and give Shampoo a chance at obtaining Ranma's willing cooperation with their engagement. With all the odds against them, separated by more than mere physical distance, will Ranma and Akane be able to find their way back to each other?
>>: Don't get me wrong; I am not a fan of the Ranma/Akane pairing. I loathe Akane. Always have, always will. But nevertheless, there are many who feel quite differently about the subject, and some of them are good writers. This is a lengthy and decently written epic, with enough attention paid to each character to make them both believable and likeable no matter their misdeeds. And although Ranma/Akane is definitely the OTP for this story, each of the characters really and truly loves the object of his or her affections, which I really appreciate. (Too often writers will get unwanted love interests out of the way by callously dismissing his or her feelings and pairing him or her up with whomever's most convenient.)

Ill Met By Starlight by Susan Doenime and Mike L. !
Rating: R
Pairing: Ranma/Akane, others
Warnings: au, m/f, violence
Summary: In which Ranma's a total psychopath, and this has drastic effects on his life and everyone he comes into contact with. When he and Genma arrive at the Tendo Dojo Akane takes an instant liking to him. He's a little distant, sure, but he's handsome and charming and endearingly damaged, and seems like he could really use a friend. But as in canon, where Ranma goes chaos is sure to follow. Ranma's enemies soon start popping out of the woodwork, and the lives of the Ranma ½ gang will never be the same.
>>: There is some beautiful psychology at work in this story. It more or less follows canon, with a few minor alterations early in Ranma's life that end up changing him from the thick-headed but good-hearted martial artist we all know into, well, a “dangerously insane person (...) a living weapon.” He encounters many of the characters from the original manga, under very similar circumstances; however, this is a very different Ranma they're dealing with, and the way this affects each character is drastic, brutal, and chillingly realistic. The gem of this story is definitely the characterization; it's just way too good. Read it. Seriously.

A New Technique by Bjorn Christianson
Rating: PG
Pairing: gen
Warnings: random!ficlet
Summary: 'Nabiki finds Ranma standing over Akane's dead body. He's just killed her! Seems that he's trying to learn whatever technique Akane used to come back from the dead at Jusendo...'
>>: XD

A Not So Simple Wish by Ebiris
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Ranma/Ranko, Ranma/Kasumi
Warnings: incomplete
Summary: Ranma's finally found a cure for his Jusenkyo curse! …I think you know where this is going. One wish later and our perpetually cursed protagonist finds herself trapped in an alternate universe where she was born female and the male Ranma has yet to return from his training trip. There's only one way to put things back to normal and gain the real cure: make Ranma Saotome fall in love with her.
>>: Funny and interesting, with a lot of good ideas on how Ranma's relationships with the other other characters might have ended up had circumstances been a bit different.

Battle of the Churches by Serafita
Rating: PG
Pairing: Ranma/Ranko
Warnings: unfinished
Summary: It all started off so innocently too. Y'know, which one do you like, and why... In a dark future supporters of Ranma's fiances have banded together to fight for their leader's right to be the One. The Cute Church, the Affectionate Church, the Nice Church, the Rose Church, and the largest and most dangerous of them all, the True Church. Amidst all this madness, the Cult of Ranma and Ranko forms as a beakon of sanity and hope for the freedom of the man everyone's fighting over. This is war, and there can be only one OTP.
>>: Not particularily well written and it'll never make it past the prologue, but it's an amusing interpretation of the pairing wars within the fandom.

Bliss by Mike Loader and Lara Bartram
Rating: R
Pairing: Ranma/Kuno, others
Warnings: m/f
Summary: Two people wash up on a desert island with no memory and no idea as to how they got there. Sounds the beginning of a bad joke, right? But for them it's deadly serious, and amnesia is the least of their problems. Trapped together indefinitely with no clue who they are (and no hot water), feelings start to blossom between the two that would never have been possible under normal circumstances. But what will happen when the past catches up to them…?
>>: I did not like the ending of this, unfortunately, but it's a long story and definitely worth reading (and my feelings about the end are probably just due to personal preference, really.)

China Girl by Saotome Ranchan
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: gen
Warnings: incomplete
Summary: After Ranma and his father have their unfortunate 'accident' at Jusenkyo, the guide takes them to the Amazon village for help adjusting to their curses. Ranma soon realizes that it's not so bad being a girl, and the Amazons soon realize what a valuable asset Ranma would be to their tribe...
>>: This is nothing super original, but it's a fun read. It would be much better, of course, were it ever to be continued.

Love and Magic by Raye Johnsen
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Ranma/Ryouga
Warnings: m/m, one-shot
Summary: “Saotome Ranma smiled grimly as he walked over to a shelf set against the wall, pulling off an old, leather-bound grimoire. Who would have thought Kuno the idiot was right for once? he thought, quietly pleased at the irony. That Saotome Ranma really is a sorcerer?”
>>: One of the very few half-decent R/Ry fics I've come across. Rather PWP-esque.

Ranma and the Heart of the Phoenix by Vince Seifert !
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Ranma/Kiima
Warnings: m/f, one-shot
Summary: An adult Ranma stumbles across Phoenix Mountain when his curiousity gets the best of him, and he's soon captured by the winged people who dwell within. Ranma doesn't actually mind, but when his actions result in trouble for the captain of the guard, the beautiful Lady Kiima, he decides to stick around for a while to help set things right.
>>: Delightful. An instant classic that spawned from the line “I was poking around Phoenix Mountain before I knew who-all lived there, and they caught me, and then they wished they hadn't. Man, that was an adventure and a half.” in the ever-infamous A Man Among Women, which you should also read (even though I personally think this story's much better).

Roses of Shadow by Richard Lawson
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Ranma/Kodachi, Ranma/Akane
Summary: Ranma's life takes another turn for the worse when he loses a fight and is forced to live with the Kunos as Kodachi's betrothed. As time goes on he realizes that his "fiance's" refusal to see reason isn't just eccentricity; she has some serious problems. And helping her with those problems may be the only way to get his life back on track...
>>: You don't see Ranma/Kodachi very often, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this. It's good! Kodachi's characterization as she struggles with her mental illness is reasonably realistic, and Ranma's struggle to find a balance between his unease with her behavior, his honest desire to help her, his more self centered motivations for doing so, and his feelings for her and Akane was also nicely done.
Part One: These Last So Bad
Part Two: What Honor Compels
Part Three: Why Should He Live
Part Four: The Walls of Denial
Part Five: The Cost of Treatment
Part Six: Rose's Scent
Part Seven: Letters From Inside
Part Eight: The Color Black
Part Nine: Moments of Light
Part Ten: His Rose is True

The Bitter End by Zen !
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Akane/Ranma, Ranma/Ukyou friendship
Warnings: m/f, one-shot
Summary: Ranma and Akane finally get married, but it doesn't solve any of the problems with their relationship. A tale of love, friendship, and domestic abuse.
>>: You can't get involved in the fandom without coming across this epically proportioned one-shot. I think that this story embodies a lot of the reasons why so many people dislike the Ranma/Akane pairing. However, whether you're pro-Ranma/Akane or against it, this is an intense and wonderfully well thought out story with some lovely psychology behind it.

You'll See by becka
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Ranma/Akane, others
Warnings: incomplete
Summary: When Ranma doesn't wake up one morning it's revealed that he has been cursed with 'The Million Little Deaths'. Ranma will live out the last moments of his counterparts in alternate universes, dying over and over again until he either recieves a cure…or dies one time too many.
>>: All of the different realities Ranma finds himself in (and the events leading to his death each time) are really interesting. But alas, like so many other promising young stories, this is sadly (and indefinitely) incomplete.

The Veils Placed Over Others' Eyes by D.B. Sommer
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Nabiki/Ukyou, Akane/Mousse, Ranma/Ryouga, Ranma/Shampoo, Kasumi/Tofu, Cologne/other(s)
Warnings: m/f, one-shot
Summary: Things are never quite what they seem. While on the surface life in Nerima carries on as usual, Ukyou and Nabiki have secret meetings and Kasumi drops by the clinic to mete out a little 'punishment' to the doctor. There's a lot more to each character than meets the eye, and behind closed doors things go on that no one could suspect...
>>: An interesting (and awesome) twist on the Ranma cast.

Direction Sense by Bjorn Christianson
Rating: PG
Pairing: canon subtext
Warnings: one-shot
Summary: Ryouga accidently eats a cake Shampoo had intended to give to her 'husband'. Now no matter where he tries to go, he can't seem to stop finding Ranma...
>>: A comedic 'series of events' kind of fic that could fit right into canon. If you like this you should also read A Fine Day, which is the same kind of thing.
